Calcium Magnesium

There is a lot of confusion and mis-information regarding calcium and magnesium.  Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the human body, second to that is magnesium. These two minerals are absolutely necessary to life.  Magnesium to some degree regulates the levels of calcium found in the body. Calcium and magnesium deficiencies can be caused by diabetes, kidney issues, poor diet, inflammation, diuretics, malabsorption, and a very stressful lifestyle.  On top of that, many Americans do not consume adequate quality calcium or magnesium in their diets. The Standard  American Diet (the SAD diet) is woefully lacking the deep green leafy vegetables that are rich in calcium and magnesium, in fact the SAD diet that is replete with junk foods, soft drinks, pizza, sugars, high proteins (for some), which makes this dietary lifestyle very acidic.   A major issue in calcium deficiency is the love affair Americans have with soft drinks.  The dark soft drinks that contain phosphorous are notorious for depleting the body of calcium and it is common knowledge that consuming these beverages contributes to osteoporosis. An acidic diet requires extra calcium which acts as a buffer in the blood stream when the blood pH shifts towards the acidic side.

Compounding this issue further is the fact that the SAD diet promotes inflammation of the gut that interrupts absorption of nutrients (malabsorption),including minerals.  Throw in rampant low Vitamin D levels in almost 80% of Americans and you have a recipe for calcium magnesium and many other mineral deficiencies.

Calcium deficiencies are associated with dozens of health conditions, most common symptoms include muscle issues like cramping, twitching and muscle pain.  Insomnia, osteoporosis/osteopenia, dry skin, brittle nails, and hypertension are also signs of calcium deficiency.  Magnesium deficiencies are very similar and include: leg cramps, restless legs, fibromyalgia, anxiety, hypertension, migraine headaches, fatigue and osteoporosis/osteopenia and others.  So you see these two minerals are intrinsically linked to a large degree.

The REGENESIS program focuses on healing inflammatory issues in the body.   The primary foods are non-starchy vegetables including green leafy vegetables and cruciferous vegetables that produce an overall alkaline environment.  Proper and adequate supplementation using mineral supplements is also used to improve mineral stores.  When folks are deficient in the macro minerals like calcium and magnesium, it goes without saying they are also deficient in micro minerals like copper and selenium.  We advocate the use of quality sea salts that contain micro minerals and in some instances small quantities of rare earth minerals.

Most commercial vitamin and mineral supplements are of poor quality and contain very inexpensive ingredients.  Many of which are not natural and may also contain food colorings and unhealthy binders.  We make sure that our supplements contain adequate high quality ingredients.

Correcting mineral deficiency issues takes some time but the rewards are huge as many common health issues will self-correct over time.
